Location Marlborough Sounds

Explore the Marlborough Sounds

Located at the top of the South Island, the Marlborough Sounds is a coastal wonderland, with winding waterways, sheltered bays, and ancient untouched forest. The Queen Charlotte Sound, Kenepuru Sound and the Pelorus Sound make up the Marlborough Sounds. Cruise, kayak or sail the endless bays.  Or simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the views.

Nydia track, Pelorus Sound - Marlborough Sounds tramping track
The Nydia track is a wonderful 2 day walk on a track maintained by the Department of Conservation. It crosses the Kaiuma and Nydia saddles with superb views and follows the sheltered shoreline of historic Nydia Bay. Formed by linking old bridle paths, the 27km track meanders through a variety of regenerating native bush and beautiful untouched forest.

Walk the Nydia Track stay at Tui Nature Reserve
You leave from Havelock by fast boat to be dropped off at the start of the Nydia Track. You walk to Nydia Bay, where you can stay the night at Te Mahoerangi Eco Lodge - www.nydiatrack.org.nz . The next day you can walk to Duncan Bay. We will pick you up by fast boat and bring you to Tui Nature Reserve, where you can stay until the Mail-boat comes to pick you up on a Friday to go back to Havelock.

Kayak hire and accommodation in Elaine Bay
Hire a kayak and explore Tennyson Inlet and other remote places in beautiful Pelorus Sound or even paddle to Tui Nature Reserve from Elaine Bay - www.seakayakingmarlborough.co.nz .

Elaine Bay has two coastal walks and mountain biking tracks. A short walk is the Piwakawaka (Fantail) Track; an easy, short walk through coastal vegetation. 2 hours return. The second is the Archer Track, a scenic coastal walk 2 to 3 hours one-way to Penzance in the beautiful Tennyson Inlet. Return to Elaine Bay from Penzance is possible via the hilltop power supply line. Elaine Bay also connects with the Nydia Track.

Havelock offers many places to stay; check out the Havelock website for more information on where to stay and what to do in Havelock - www.havelocknz.com .
