'Duffers Reef' Boat Cruise
This boat cruise offers a look at one of the most isolated parts of the Marlborough Sounds and is only available for people that stay at Tui Nature Reserve. A real treat for the bird and nature enthusiast alike.
Enjoy a beautiful boat cruise through the bays, coves and waterways of the remote and isolated Outer Pelorus Sound. On the way we will stop to spot marine wildlife like the Little Blue Penguin and the Fluttering Shearwaters.
We will travel all the way to the Outer Pelorus entrance where the very rare King Shag colony breeds on Duffers Reef.
The endemic King Shag is recognized as the only pink-footed shag in the Cook Strait Region and is one of the rarest shags in the world. It inhabits a few small islets in the deep waters at the head of the Marlborough Sounds. The bird feeds on deep underwater fish such as flounder, sole and blue cod, by diving from the surface and remaining submerged for up to 50 seconds.
To make the tour nothing but enjoyable we only go out with reasonable calm weather.
The price for this tour is $105 per adult, and $25 per child. With a minimum of two adults.
